While Vinicius Jr has been frustrated since Rodri won the Golden Ball, the Manchester City midfielder seems intent on finishing off Real Madrid’s No7. After his victory, the Spaniard mocked his challenger in a video that caused quite a stir in Madrid.
After his unexpected triumph, Rodri was spotted celebrating in a Paris restaurant, surrounded by family and team-mates. So far, a traditional celebration. But things took a turn that left no one indifferent. In a video shared and then deleted by Manchester City, Rodri is seen singing the famous song ‘Bella Ciao’, a revolutionary tune that has become popular. However, he changed the lyrics to send a message to Vinícius Jr: “ Vinicius! Vinicius! Ciao! Ciao Ciao!” to a hilarious Ruben Dias.
The sequence, which was picked up by El Chiringuito, quickly set social networks ablaze. Fans and football personalities were quick to react. Some even accused Rodri of disrespecting Vinicius. In any case, the video has added fuel to the fire between Madrid fans and Ballon d’Or voters.
Rodri’s transfer to Real Madrid in jeopardy?
Rodri’s video, although withdrawn, was seen as an affront by many Madrid fans. And it’s not certain that the Casa Blanca fans would be willing to accept a future transfer for the Spanish midfielder. Indeed, for some months now, rumours have been circulating that Real Madrid were interested in Rodri.
The player himself, a native of Madrid, is said to be a fan and is thinking of a future at the Bernabeu. During Euro 2024, Dani Carvajal even tried to convince him to join the white club in the summer of 2025, a year before the end of his contract with Manchester City. But this golden ball could well upset all those plans.
