Just days before Real Madrid’s trip to Mestalla to face Valencia CF as part of La Liga’s twelfth round, a deadly natural disaster has cast doubt over the fixture.
La Liga returns this weekend. Following an unexpected home defeat for Real Madrid to FC Barcelona in the eleventh round, clubs across the Spanish league are set to meet again to pursue their goals. However, as Carlo Ancelotti and his men prepare to face Valencia CF on Saturday, dangerous weather conditions hitting eastern Spain have put the match at risk. In fact, amid strong winds and torrential rains, around sixty people have lost their lives.
Match postponed?

In light of this tragic situation, Florentino Pérez extended his support to the people of Valencia this Wednesday. In correspondence sent to the Valencia CF leadership, Real Madrid expressed their readiness to make things easier for the team, which is currently in the relegation zone. Easing the situation means not contesting the possible postponement of the match. Following this announcement, the Spanish government declared a three-day period of mourning, starting this Thursday.
Naturally, Valencia has officially requested that La Liga postpone Saturday’s match to mourn the loss of life due to the ongoing weather disaster. According to Relevo and radio station Cope, the postponement request is expected to be granted, as La Liga is considering delaying other matches scheduled within the Valencian Community.
For now, Real Madrid can only wait calmly for next week to resume competition. Their next match will be against AC Milan on 5 November as part of the fourth round of the Champions League. Even though the situation is tragic for Valencia, this will give Madrid an opportunity to rest and allow physically weakened players, such as Rodrygo Goes and Antonio Rüdiger, to recover.
