Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly decided to position Federico Valverde as the right-back for the coming weeks. This decision is unlikely to be well received by Valverde and his entourage.
Real Madrid is experiencing a challenging start to the season. Between injuries and poor results, the Spanish club is performing below its usual standards. Currently second in La Liga, six points behind FC Barcelona with a game in hand, and struggling in the Champions League, the reigning European champions have lost both of their right-backs: Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal, both severely injured.
Carlo Ancelotti has chosen Valverde
With numerous injuries in defence, particularly that of Lucas Vazquez, the only right-back in the squad, Carlo Ancelotti has decided to position Valverde as the right-back. This was revealed by AS. The well-informed Spanish media outlet on the reigning Spanish champions indicates that the Italian coach has opted for an internal solution rather than recruiting a new right-back in the upcoming transfer window. It remains to be seen whether this choice will be successful, as the Uruguayan midfielder does not excel in this position, and his recent performances do not suggest otherwise.
A role that does not suit Valverde
Federico Valverde is therefore set to change positions for a considerable period. A position he has occasionally occupied in some matches where he had to cover the right flank. However, it is difficult for him to fully express himself in this role. To recall, a few days ago, the wife of the main concerned publicly criticised Ancelotti’s decision to position him as a right midfielder.
“Brother, where Fede plays best is as a central midfielder. What are you talking about? Hahahahahahaha! When will you understand once and for all that Fede is not a damn winger?” He will have to forget the central midfield position for some time. Having had an excellent 2023-2024 season, the Uruguayan has not been at his best since the start of this new campaign.
The Montevideo native, who has scored only two goals and provided two assists in 12 La Liga matches this season, is unlikely to see his stats improve in the coming weeks.
