Ferland Mendy and Aurélien Tchouaméni could already leave the Spanish capital at the end of the season. The two French internationals, unconvincing this season, will bear the brunt of a squad trimming at the end of the season.
Real Madrid needs to strengthen certain positions but must also part ways with some players. Pressured by the serious injuries of key players like Eder Militão, David Alaba, and Dani Carvajal, the Spanish capital club faces a dilemma: recruit and part ways with some. For potential arrivals, names like Alphonso Davies, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Florian Wirtz, Emeric Laporte, and Rodri are circulating, but for departures, the names of the French players are persistently mentioned. It is either Aurélien Tchouaméni or Ferland Mendy who are considered as players placed on the transfer market.
Tchouaméni in Liverpool’s sights
With the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, the French contingent has increased this season in Madrid. However, Madrid has not seen the expected success for some. Aurélien Tchouaméni, considered the replacement for Toni Kroos in midfield, has failed to convince, and criticism is coming from all sides. This poor form is increasingly fuelling rumours of a departure as early as this winter. Even though for the management and technical staff, the player is “non-transferable” for now, a good offer would not be rejected by the club’s presidency.
If Tchouaméni were to leave the Madrid club, Liverpool would be in pole position to attract him. The Reds have long admired this player. In fact, Jürgen Klopp tried to convince him in 2022. But Aurélien Tchouaméni ultimately chose Real Madrid.
Ferland Mendy, pressured by Alphonso Davies?
Several media outlets revealed this week a preliminary agreement between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich’s Canadian star Alphonso Davies. The left-back could thus join the Spanish capital for free at the end of his contract in Bavaria. A transfer, if it materialises, could cause damage within the group. Ferland Mendy, who seems to be in decline, could be placed on the transfer market.
Because if Davies arrives, Real would be forced to part with one of its three left-backs, with Fran García being very sharp this season. But unlike Tchouaméni, the big European clubs are not currently scrambling for Ferland Mendy.
This winter transfer window could be a bit calmer, with roughly the same group until next summer. But at the end of the season, Real Madrid will experience a much more animated transfer window, with potential departures of Luka Modrić, Dani Ceballos, among others.
