Federico Valverde is undoubtedly one of the key figures in the Real Madrid dressing room. The Uruguayan midfielder has experienced great adventures with the club and knows the mentality within the institution better than anyone.
Real Madrid is experiencing a delicate first half of the season and seems to be lagging behind their season objectives. The reigning European champions have had inconsistent performances, trailing six points behind the leader and historical rival Barcelona, and closely followed by the other city club, Atletico Madrid, in the La Liga standings. In the Champions League, it is also not the usual standard. The reigning champions have conceded 2 defeats in 4 matches and are in 18th place in the new competition format.
Federico Valverde confident for the season

While he acknowledges that Real Madrid is going through a somewhat complicated period, Federico Valverde does not seem to be worried about the club’s end-of-season objectives. Having joined the club in August 2016 at just 18 years old, Federico Valverde has experienced relatively tense situations that have forged his mentality and led him to believe in his club.
It is well known that Real Madrid is a club that never gives up, and this season’s few underperformances will not change this culture within the club. In an interview with Movistar+, the Uruguayan player reassured the fans in this regard. “We lost 0-4 at the Bernabéu a few years ago and ended up winning the Champions League and La Liga. What ultimately matters during your year is whether you have won titles and not whether you have lost some matches.“
“There are still many competitions, many things to do,” he continues. “We are a team that has this rebellion to change the situation and move forward. The history of this club is to never give up, we have to fight until the end. We must be the first to fight hard in training and show people that we want to win everything this year. It is the only way to continue improving and growing.“
Humble analysis of the Clasico

In the same interview, the Diego Forlan fan reacted to the thrashing his club received in the Clasico at the Bernabéu on 27 October. “The level of football we have is not the best or what we thought we could have. It hurts to lose against a direct rival (Barça) with whom you risk your pride and honour in one of the most-watched matches in the world. It hurts a lot and it gives you a lot of helplessness not to score the three points on your field.”
“But you also have to recognise when one plays a lower game than the other, and I think Barcelona played a very good match, especially in the second half. The first half was very balanced, but the goal changed everything (…) They play very well, they knew how to manage when they were ahead, and that’s it. They did a good job at the Bernabéu.“
Through these remarks reported by Footmercato, there is no doubt that the midfielder who spent his childhood in the streets of Montevideo hopes for a sweet revenge in the return match for the fans’ delight.
