Clasico of Legends: Luis Figo’s Real Madrid ruins everything against Ronaldinho and Barça

The Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar hosted a gala match this Thursday between the legends of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Held ahead of the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Catalan club, the match ended in favour of Ronaldinho and his teammates, who won 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

Former footballing legends delighted fans in Qatar this Thursday. From Luis Figo to Ricardo Quaresma, Rivaldo, Clarence Seedorf, and including Patrick Kluivert, David Villa, and Eric Abidal, several big names who passed through La Liga took to the Khalifa Stadium for a Clasico of legends. Entering the match well, the Barcelona veterans quickly took the lead thanks to a goal from Sorin in the 8th minute. After a well-executed team move, the Argentine legend broke the deadlock.

Just a few minutes after this goal, it was the great Ronaldinho who would dazzle the thousands of spectators who had made the trip. From a well-placed free kick just outside the Madrid penalty area, the former Brazilian football star struck the ball into the top corner of the Madrid keeper Paco Buyo’s goal. At 44, the magic had clearly not left the feet of the phenomenon who revolutionised football.

Trailing by two goals at half-time, Real Madrid fought back after the break. In the 58th minute, Luis Figo reduced the deficit with a superb strike into the bottom corner of the Barcelona penalty area, kicking off the Madrid legends’ comeback.

In a dominant spell, Clarence Seedorf’s team drew level in the 63rd minute thanks to former Colombian international Edwin Congo. Capitalising on a mistake by the Barcelona defence, the 48-year-old former striker punished the Catalan goalkeeper and brought the two teams level at 2-2.

In the 73rd minute, Patrick Kluivert missed a penalty that was well saved by the Madrid keeper. After the 90 minutes of regular time, the Clasico of legends went to a penalty shootout. During this decisive session, it was the Catalans who triumphed 4-2 and claimed the symbolic trophy put up by the organisers of this gala match.
