Against Pachuca in the final of the Intercontinental Cup 2024, Real Madrid shone thanks to a classy link-up between Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Jr and Kylian Mbappé before the break.
After a complicated start marked by the fighting spirit of the Pachuca players, Real Madrid finally broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. Although Carlo Ancelotti’s side dominated possession, they had struggled to break through the Mexicans’ tight defence. The spark came from Jude Bellingham.
The English midfielder, the Merengues’ playmaker of the season, delivered a pinpoint pass through the middle to Vinícius Jr on the left side of the box. The latter, true to his explosive style, followed up with a double leg pass before a devastating hook that left Carlos Agustín Moreno on the spot.
Vinícius’ ability to destabilise opposing defences once again made the difference. With a deft feint, he created the perfect opening for a pass to Mbappé. Well positioned, the French striker put the ball in the net. The goal gives Real Madrid a psychological advantage over Pachuca.
