A few hours after Real Madrid’s victory over Mexico’s Pachuca FC, Florentino Pérez and all the Madrid decision-makers were alerted to a particular name. A true architect of the team’s success, he would be missed at Real if he were to leave, according to Pedja Mijatovic, former player and sporting director.
Real Madrid concludes the year 2024 on a high note. Before the final match of the year against FC Sevilla in La Liga next Sunday, Vinicius Junior and his teammates defeated Pachuca FC in the Intercontinental Club Cup final on Wednesday in Qatar. Following triumphs in the Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup, La Liga, and the Champions League, Los Blancos secured their fifth trophy of the year. While the players have had an excellent season, Florentino Pérez seems sceptical about replicating this success next year. However, Pedja Mijatovic has identified the true driving force behind the club’s achievements.
“Madrid will struggle to find someone like him”

In the programme El Larguero on Cadena SER following the victory over Pachuca, the former forward, who played for Real Madrid between 1996 and 1999 (118 matches, 36 goals), was full of praise for Carlo Ancelotti. Speaking candidly, Mijatovic, who also served as the club’s sporting director after his playing career, stated that the Italian coach, now the most decorated manager in Real’s history with 15 trophies, would be hard to replace.
According to Pedja Mijatovic, Florentino Pérez should not take the 65-year-old coach lightly. “Carlo Ancelotti? First of all, congratulations to him (on his new record); it’s a significant achievement to be the most decorated coach at a club like this. In fact, for me, he’s the best coach in history, with the way he treats everyone, with the titles… He’s a very complete coach, and Madrid will struggle to find someone like him. There will be other younger, more modern coaches, but someone with as many qualities as Ancelotti is very rare. Practically impossible,” said the former Madrid forward.
Aware of the importance of Pedja’s opinion, the president of Real Madrid is unlikely to terminate Carlo Ancelotti’s contract anytime soon. While some Madrid fans doubt the Italian coach’s ability to get the best out of the squad, Florentino Pérez remains very satisfied.

According to information from Defensa Central this Thursday, the 77-year-old Spanish president is even considering renewing the coach’s contract. Currently contracted with Real until June 2026, the former Bayern Munich manager continues to demonstrate his exceptional player management skills.
With young stars and the team’s atmosphere, the Italian coach manages to limit ego conflicts and get the best out of the squad. Despite a few poor matches, it’s fair to say that the former AC Milan player remains one of the best, if not the best, coaches Real has had in recent years.
