Unlike last season, when the team was unbeatable at the back, the squad has been weakened by the unaddressed departure of Nacho Fernandez. Since the beginning of this campaign, injuries have significantly complicated matters for Carlo Ancelotti and his staff, who have lost Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao for the rest of the season. Alaba already training with the group, a positive development
In 2025, things are expected to improve for Florentino Pérez’s club. Indeed, while a signing for the right-back position is not entirely ruled out, Real Madrid’s defence will be bolstered by the return of David Alaba. Seriously injured in his knee in December 2023, the versatile Austrian defender was initially expected to return by the end of the year. However, due to delays in his recovery, the former Bayern Munich player will not feature in 2024, as reported by Relevo.
As Carlo Ancelotti mentioned, January 2025 is set to mark David Alaba’s return to full training. Against all odds, the 32-year-old trained with the Madrid squad this Saturday. Eager to get back and help the team, Alaba participated in a significant portion of the day’s training session alongside his teammates. This is excellent news for the technical staff, who will have a crucial defensive reinforcement ready at the start of the year. With this confirmed return, it seems unlikely that Florentino Pérez will make any defensive signings in January.
Capable of playing both as a left-back and a central defender, David Alaba will provide the coaching staff with valuable options by mid-January at the latest. Here’s to the new year and the prospect of seeing the Austrian defender back in action after more than a year on the sidelines.
