Real Madrid recorded a crushing 5-1 victory over Salzburg in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening. Brazilian winger Rodrygo, who scored twice, spoke to Movistar after the match. In this interview, he discusses his performance, the praise heaped on his team-mate Vinicius, and his opinion of the team, while also responding to the criticism levelled at Carlo Ancelotti.
Q: You scored two goals tonight. How do you feel after such a performance?
Rodrygo: ‘It’s a very important day for us. It gives us a lot of confidence. I’m very happy to score again. It was a really special night.
Vinicius said you deserved the title of MVP of the match. How do you feel about that?
Rodrygo: ‘It doesn’t matter. We play for the team first and foremost. It doesn’t matter who wins the MVP award. I’m happy for him, he scored two goals and that’s always positive. The most important thing is to keep winning.

Tell us about the action with Jude Bellingham, in particular his back-heel that led to your goal.
Rodrygo: ‘It’s very easy to play with Jude. He makes everything easier with his movements and the balls he gives you. It was a really enjoyable experience.
How do you respond to the criticism levelled at Carlo Ancelotti?
Rodrygo: ‘I’ll always defend the coach. Sometimes we have difficult moments, but we’re working hard to get the best out of him.
