With four months of competition remaining for Real Madrid this season, it’s game over for one of Carlo Ancelotti’s players. Expected to play a key role in the Madrid squad, the Spanish player has sealed his fate once and for all… and is unlikely to play again this season.
Real Madrid have already registered two season-ending injuries since November. After Dani Carvajal suffered a serious knee injury in a match against Villarreal, Éder Militão also dropped out of the squad in early November with another major setback: a torn cruciate ligament. While fingers are crossed that no further injuries will definitively end another squad member’s season, Carlo Ancelotti himself has called time on Jesús Vallejo.
Ancelotti permanently drops Vallejo from his plans

At Real Madrid since 2015, the Spanish centre-back is not expected to play a single minute for the remainder of the season. Having played just around fifteen minutes this campaign (against Alavés), Jesús Vallejo completely sealed his fate during the FIFA Club World Cup final last December. Indeed, while his performances had failed to inspire confidence, Carlo Ancelotti had been willing to give him another chance against Atlético Mineiro. But, against all expectations, Vallejo refused to play, claiming he was not feeling well.
With the rise of Raúl Asensio and the return of David Alaba, Relevo reports that the Madrid coaching staff have now definitively ruled out the 28-year-old defender. As stated earlier this year, Carlo Ancelotti would now rather give playing time to young reserve players such as Jacobo Ramón or Joan Martínez than field the former Zaragoza player again. According to reports, the Madrid board fully supports the manager’s decision, as Vallejo does not appear willing to change the situation.
With his contract expiring in June, Jesús Vallejo now sees his final season at Real Madrid come to an early end. It must be said that since arriving at Florentino Pérez’s club, the defender has been one of the least-used players. With one of the lowest market values and wages in the squad, Vallejo will leave Los Blancos having played just 32 matches and scored a single goal. Since signing in 2015, he has had multiple loan spells at clubs such as Granada, Zaragoza, Wolverhampton, and Eintracht Frankfurt—yet has never managed to convince.
With his fate already sealed in Madrid, Jesús Vallejo and his representatives will now look for a new project in the hope of reviving a career that never truly took off. At 28, his chances of joining a top club again appear slim.
