A few hours after Real Madrid’s 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, Madrid daily Marca slipped a major piece of information about Carlo Ancelotti. The 65-year-old Italian coach, who was criticised before this important match, knows where his players stand on the way he works.
Returning to Real Madrid in 2021 after two good seasons between 2013 and 2015 (89 wins, 14 draws and 16 defeats), Carlo Ancelotti is achieving extraordinary things. The 65-year-old coach is very good at managing people, and manages to get the best out of his players with each passing season. Although his contract was extended until June 2026 a few months ago, the Italian coach’s future is currently the subject of debate. Given his team’s difficulties at the start of the season, Ancelotti is in the hot seat.
Anything to save Ancelotti’s skin

To avoid being ejected before the end of his contract with Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti must pass the big tests of October and November. His first test comes on Tuesday, when he takes on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Beaten by Lille on Matchday 2, the Madrid coach had no room for error. And although things got off to a bad start with Real conceding two goals before half-time, the situation changed after the break, with the players transcending themselves and going all out to win 5-2.
With this fine victory boosting Real Madrid’s morale ahead of the Clasico, Carlo Ancelotti has given himself a major reprieve. And while he predicted a possible turnaround in his team’s fortunes following their triumph over Borussia Dortmund, Marca reports that the players are determined to save their coach’s skin. Backing their manager 100%, Vinicius Junior and his team-mates are said to have been hurt by the criticism.
Will the Clasico ease the pressure once and for all?

“We can’t let the coach down” was the message heard over the last few days from the players, who acknowledge their share of responsibility for the team’s lacklustre performance since the start of the season. On the brink of collapse before half-time against BVB on Tuesday, Ancelotti’s players received a blow in the dressing room. Seeing things getting tougher for their ‘fatherly’ coach, the reaction was resounding.
This is very good news for the 65-year-old, who can hope to turn things around completely by January. With another brilliant result against Barcelona in next Saturday’s Clasico, Carlo Ancelotti could give himself a reprieve.
