A few months after his departure from Real Madrid, Karim Benzema has spoken out to address the current challenges facing Carlo Ancelotti’s team. While he didn’t mince his words regarding Kylian Mbappé, the 36-year-old striker reassures fans about Real Madrid’s prospects for the end of the season.
Karim Mostafa Benzema is not a player who sees the truth and looks the other way. Always forthright in his statements, the former Real Madrid player does not hesitate to speak up about what’s wrong. Following the 2024 Ballon d’Or scandal, he spoke with Edu Aguirre from the famous show El Chiringuito TV. Denouncing the farce experienced by Vinicius Junior, whom he regards as the best player in the world, KB9 touched on several other matters concerning Carlo Ancelotti’s team, which has been struggling to shine since the start of the season.
Benzema’s uncompromising truths
In a new segment of the exclusive interview revealed just hours before the clash between Real Madrid and AC Milan in the Champions League, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner went into detail about the Kylian Mbappé issue. Suspected of destabilising the Madrid team since his arrival due to his positioning on the pitch and, above all, his very limited commitment to defensive duties, the current captain of the French national team received some valuable advice. In no uncertain terms, Karim Benzema indicated that his compatriot is not playing the role of a true number 9.
Far more comfortable on the left side of the attack, as with the French national team and especially at PSG, where he spent the past seven years of his professional career, Mbappé now has to work to adapt to his new responsibilities, clearly states the Al-Ittihad striker in Saudi Arabia. Unlike some sceptics who believe that Carlo Ancelotti’s team is heading for a trophyless season, Karim Benzema clearly states that things will fall into place in the coming months. “I will always believe in Real Madrid. They always bounce back, especially when the whole world doubts them. I have faith in the team,” he emphasised in the interview with El Chiringuito TV. However, the player who played 648 matches and scored 354 goals between 2009 and 2023 in the club’s white jersey expects some changes in their gameplay.
Indeed, while the coaching staff is doing everything to field the team’s stars, often in positions that aren’t natural to them, Karim Mostafa Benzema wants to see something different. “Real Madrid has the best players in the world, but the team must play for each other, with every player in their own position. They don’t need to lose their heads when they concede a goal,” he added.
This is a firm statement that is unlikely to sit well with Carlo Ancelotti, who is already under scrutiny for his tactical choices this season. If there’s one player who might feel relieved by KB9’s comments, it would likely be Jude Bellingham, who is frustrated with his situation this season. Unlike last season, when he played in a position that suited him, the English midfielder finds himself restricted following Mbappé’s arrival and untouchable status.
