This defeat is extremely damaging to morale. Announced as fired up and eager to dispel doubts surrounding the team after the Clasico humiliation, Carlo Ancelotti’s men displayed a very disappointing performance. Lifeless, soulless, and notably lost on the pitch, the Madrid team failed to do what was necessary to secure the three points.
“Our mentality is not good”

After justifying the early substitution of Valverde at half-time due to inadequate fitness stemming from a back issue, the 65-year-old coach, increasingly criticised for his choices, did not hide his concern.
“We have to be worried. In the last two matches, we have lacked solidity. We are not defending well; the team is not yet compact. We have conceded many goals. The team is not well organised on the pitch,” Ancelotti initially stated before emphasising a collective problem. “This is not an individual issue; it’s a collective one. Mentally, we are not doing well.“
This is quite a concerning statement from the head coach of Real Madrid, who now has 6 points out of a possible 12 after four matches. Given that the next opponent for Florentino Pérez’s club is Liverpool, the current leaders of this knockout phase of the Champions League with a perfect record (12 points), there is much to worry about. In any case, the coming days look tense for the Madrid side.
