Real Madrid got back to winning ways on Saturday evening, beating Girona 3-0 thanks to a great performance from Jude Bellingham, who scored and set up. Although the Casa Blanca still lost two key players to injury, it was a good result that allowed Kylian Mbappe’s team-mates to move to within two points of Barcelona. At the end of the match, our editorial team rated Carlo Ancelotti’s players.
Thibaut Courtois: 7
True to form, Thibaut Courtois was on target against Girona. The Real Madrid goalkeeper was reassuring on his line and kept a clean sheet in the first half despite Girona’s dominance.
Ferland Mendy: 5.5
Having struggled since the start of the season, Ferland Mendy does not seem to have rediscovered all his sensations. The French full-back had an average game. Although he was present defensively, the former Lyon man was particularly guilty of overstepping his mark. Unfortunately, he went off injured before the end of the match.

Antonio Rüdiger: 6
He is the boss of the Real Madrid defence. And if Carlo Ancelotti’s side went into half-time without conceding a single goal, it was thanks in part to Antonio Rüdiger. The German defender was never troubled despite the home side’s dominance.
Aurélien Tchouameni: 7
Playing in central defence once again, Aurélien Tchouameni once again showed good form. The French international midfielder complemented Rüdiger very well and once again made a valuable contribution in the build-up.
Lucas Vazquez: 5.5
Like Ferland Mendy, Lucas Vazquez was present on the right flank. But it was in attack that the Spanish international made his presence felt the most. Not overly troubled defensively, Vazquez gave Carlo Ancelotti plenty to cheer about this match.
Federico Valverde: 6.5
Federico Valverde was tireless and invaluable at the back, taking advantage of the absence of Tchouameni and Camavinga in midfield to prove himself equal to the task. The Uruguayan international clearly worked and ran for the strikers.
Luka Modric: 7
Starting against Girona this evening, Luka Modric brought his experience to the game. Although he was less noticeable in defensive duties and in certain aspects of the game, Madrid’s captain was invaluable offensively thanks to his vision and his ability to find strikers in a tight area. He delivered an exceptional pass to Kylian Mbappe for Real Madrid’s third goal.
Arda Güler: 7
A little timid in the first half, Arda Güler, who started again this evening, stepped up a gear. In the second half, he capitalised on a wonderful pass from Jude Bellingham to open his account.

Jude Bellingham: 8
In fine form over the last few weeks, Jude Bellingham did everything right against Girona this evening. The young England international midfielder got Real Madrid off to a flying start before half-time with a sublime strike, before supplying Arda Güler with a perfect pass for the winner. Unfortunately, he went off injured on the hour mark. He was our man of the match.
Brahim Diaz: 5
A little timid, Brahim Diaz was one of Real Madrid’s weak links against Girona. The Moroccan international striker was not decisive and although he tried some interesting things, it was clearly not his day.

Kylian Mbappe: 7
Kylian Mbappé had been quiet since the start of the game, missing several chances, but he silenced the critics by scoring a golazo for Real Madrid. The French striker took advantage of a sublime pass from Luka Modric to light the fuse.
