Considered one of the main culprits behind Real Madrid’s failure this season, Carlo Ancelotti is on his way out. Following the defeat to Arsenal at the Bernabéu, journalist Siro López has revealed the coach’s departure date.
Carlo Ancelotti may well have taken charge of his final Champions League match as Real Madrid manager. The elimination against Arsenal has left a bitter taste, placing the Italian in a precarious position within the Los Blancos setup. As Ancelotti’s future appears to be drifting away from Madrid, speculation is rife regarding his potential successor. According to numerous pundits, the majority of the blame for Real Madrid’s Champions League exit lies with the 65-year-old manager, whose side has lacked a clear tactical identity.
Between two potential successors

With a squad of Real Madrid’s quality, much better performances were expected. For weeks now, Xabi Alonso’s name has been strongly linked with the job. Seen as one of the most promising young managers of the moment, the former Real Madrid midfielder is reportedly Florentino Pérez’s favourite to succeed Ancelotti. Just before the second leg against the Gunners, Jürgen Klopp’s name also emerged as a credible alternative.
Even though uncertainty still surrounds the final decision of the Merengues’ board, the situation is clearly pushing Ancelotti to consider his future away from the Spanish capital. Aware of Brazil’s strong interest, the Italian manager might eventually accept his departure and take charge of a major national team before retiring from football altogether.
Siro López sheds light on Ancelotti’s exit plan

As many wonder when the Italian coach will leave Real Madrid, Spanish sports journalist Siro López has shared his view. Just after the crushing defeat to Arsenal, López stated that the Italian could step down before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place from 15 June to 13 July. Given how much importance Florentino Pérez attaches to this prestigious tournament – not only for the honour but also the financial rewards it brings – Siro suggested that changes could occur before 11 May.
“Ancelotti is 70% responsible for this failure; with this squad, he could have done much more,” Siro López said during a livestream on ElDesmarque’s Twitch channel. He went on to reveal that a new coach might be in place before 11 May.
This major revelation backs up reports from British media outlets like Sky Sports on Thursday. Indeed, in the aftermath of the elimination by Arsenal, Sky Sports suggested that Carlo Ancelotti’s final match could be the Copa del Rey final on Saturday, 26 April – potentially paving the way for an interim coach to see out the remainder of the La Liga campaign. What’s clear is that the loss to Arsenal has marked a turning point for Ancelotti, whose fate at Real Madrid now seems sealed.
As Thierry Henry and Samir Nasri also pointed out recently, Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti is no longer a side capable of competing with teams like Arsenal, PSG, Liverpool, or even Barcelona. Urgent action is needed if the team is to rediscover its spark any time soon.
