Injured against Atalanta, Kylian Mbappé was forced to leave the pitch. Following Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory, Carlo Ancelotti offered a reassuring update.

The matches are coming thick and fast for Real Madrid. After their victory over Girona on Saturday, Carlo Ancelotti and his team faced a tricky away trip to the Gewiss Stadium to take on Atalanta Bergamo this Tuesday, as part of the sixth round of the Champions League. With Kylian Mbappé starting in attack, the Madrid side had little trouble overcoming the Italians, who had remained unbeaten for several months. In this match, marked by a 3-2 win for Los Merengues, the French forward had to leave the pitch in the 35th minute due to a muscle issue.

Just a strain for Mbappé?

Speaking to UEFA’s official media outlet after referee Szymon Marciniak’s final whistle, Carlo Ancelotti provided reassurance regarding Kylian Mbappé’s issue. While some Spanish media have expressed uncertainty about the 25-year-old French striker’s condition, the 65-year-old Madrid coach indicated it was merely a muscular strain. “Kylian Mbappé’s injury doesn’t seem serious. It’s just a strain. A hamstring issue. It doesn’t appear to be anything major; we’ll see tomorrow. He couldn’t sprint; it was bothering him slightly, so we decided to take him off.”

When asked again about the injury concerns within his squad, the Madrid coach sidestepped the question and expressed optimism for the remainder of the year. “I have nothing to say about the injuries. The fact is, we have a very limited squad, and we can’t rotate players as much as we’d like,” he said, before adding: “This is a key moment in the season. If we can make it through to Christmas, everything will be fine. After that, our injured players will return.”

While awaiting Wednesday’s medical tests to clarify the condition of KM9, who has been gaining momentum in recent matches, it must be said that Real Madrid has rediscovered their form following an impressive performance against the Bergamo side. With a much more compact defence and a clinical attack at key moments, Florentino Pérez’s club may well reignite their season by stringing together strong results as the year draws to a close.
