Real Madrid produced a historic performance to crush Manchester City 3-1 in the second leg of their Champions League play-off. After winning the first leg 3-2, Madrid booked their place in the last 16 thanks to an exceptional hat-trick from Kylian Mbappé. Here are the players’ scores after this resounding victory.
Thibaut Courtois: 7.5
Thibaut Courtois had little to worry about against a Manchester City side weakened by the absence of Erling Haaland, but he was nonetheless able to deal with the opposition’s rare attempts. The Belgian goalkeeper managed his game perfectly and was assured in his interventions.
Federico Valverde: 8
The captain for the evening, Valverde put in an outstanding performance down the right flank. Untiring, he excelled both defensively and offensively, repelling the opposition’s attacks. He also played an active role in the transition phases.
Raúl Asencio: 8.5
Young Raúl Asencio’s rise to prominence was confirmed. He provided a sumptuous assist for Mbappé’s opener and was imperious defensively. He is proving to be a valuable asset for the club’s future.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7.5
Fresh back from injury, Rüdiger was solid and perfectly neutralised the opposition’s attacks. He covered for Marmoush, who was never able to get going in this match.
Ferland Mendy: 6.5
Serious and diligent performance from Mendy. The left-back didn’t take any unnecessary risks and managed his flank well. One of his most reassuring performances of the season.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 7.5
Back in his preferred position, Tchouaméni once again shone in the recuperation department. He dominated the midfield and was well supported by Dani Ceballos, allowing him to play with confidence.
Dani Ceballos: 8
A veritable metronome in Madrid’s midfield, Ceballos impressed with his technical quality and vision. He constantly created danger with his cutting passes and helped to unbalance City’s defence.

Jude Bellingham: 8
Bellingham once again proved his importance by orchestrating Madrid’s play. Untiring, he was active on all fronts. He took part in both defensive and attacking duties.
Rodrygo Goes: 7.5
Rodrygo was decisive with his assist for Mbappé’s second goal, and had a decent game. However, he could have been bolder in his attacking ventures to create more dangerous situations.
Vinicius Jr: 7.5
Much anticipated after the tense atmosphere of the first leg, Vinicius Jr was invaluable as a team. He did not put in a sparkling individual performance, but made a major contribution to Real’s attacking performance.
Kylian Mbappé: 9.5 – MAN OF THE MATCH
Stratospheric. Mbappé wrapped up the match in half with a sensational hat-trick. He scored in the 4th minute, doubled his tally in the 37th after humiliating Gvardiol, and scored a masterful third. Every ball the French striker touched created danger. An absolute masterclass.
KYLIAN MBAPPÉ: HAT-TRICK.
