Born on 6 March 1902, with the establishment of its first board of directors, the world’s greatest football club marks another year in its illustrious history.

6 March 1902 – 6 March 2025: It has now been 123 years since Real Madrid came into existence. While some legendary football clubs founded in the same era have since disappeared or fallen from the European football scene, Los Blancos continue to dominate. With a solid foundation, the club, currently led by the highly influential Florentino Pérez, celebrates another anniversary with an outstanding record of achievements. As highlighted in an official club statement on its website, Real Madrid can take immense pride in its numerous successes both nationally and internationally.

Real Madrid’s unparalleled success and its legends

And there it is, 123: Real Madrid celebrates a happy day!

Today, with 26 European trophies, including 15 Champions League titles won by the football first team and 11 by the basketball team, Real Madrid has the honour of being named FIFA’s Club of the 20th Century. A global benchmark for clubs, Los Merengues extended their dominance in Europe last year by securing five more trophies, including their 15th Champions League title (La Decimoquinta) at Wembley.

Legends such as Santiago Bernabéu, the club’s iconic president, and players like Di Stéfano, Gento, Puskás, Kopa, and Santamaría led Real Madrid to five consecutive European Cups between 1956 and 1960. In 1966, the sixth arrived, with legends such as Amancio and Pirri in the starting eleven. In more recent years, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos, Casillas, and Zinédine Zidane have written their names in Madrid’s hall of legends.

Beyond its countless footballing successes, the club celebrating its 123rd anniversary this Thursday also became the first football club to surpass €1 billion in revenue. With its iconic stadium, which every player dreams of playing in, Real Madrid generates massive profits daily. Recently, during the club’s latest General Assembly, Florentino Pérez announced a major new challenge for his administration—to push the club even further into legendary status.

“We are in the final phase of achieving the great challenge Real Madrid set for itself five years ago: to make the Bernabéu an architectural landmark of Madrid. It is the most iconic stadium in world football. Additionally, Ciudad Real Madrid is the best sports complex in the world and continues to grow 19 years after its inauguration,” said the 77-year-old president, who will continue his reign until 2029.

123 years of dominance—long may it continue for many more decades. For now, it is time to celebrate before turning attention back to football on Sunday, with the La Liga Matchday 27 fixture. Happy Birthday, Real Madrid!
