Clasico: Real Madrid launches an official investigation after the thrashing by Barça

Soundly defeated 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu this Saturday in the Clasico by Barça, Real Madrid retains its values of respect and courtesy even in times of pain. In response to the behaviour of certain supporters against Lamine Yamal, Florentino Pérez’s club released a powerful statement this Sunday.

FC Barcelona dealt a harsh blow to Madrid. Arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu to play the eleventh round of La Liga against Carlo Ancelotti’s team, Lamine Yamal and his teammates showed great precision in front of Lunin’s goal, securing a 4-0 win. While the outcome was completely unexpected, the scenario caused some Madrid supporters to react poorly. Indeed, after the goal by the 17-year-old Catalan star, racist insults were unfortunately heard in the stands.

Madrid’s firm response

As videos of some offenders circulate online, Real Madrid has spoken out. In an official statement this Sunday, Florentino Pérez’s club expressed its dismay at the behaviour of those supporters who misrepresented the club. As expected, an investigation has been launched to identify and punish those responsible for the racist insults towards Lamine Yamal, who was merely doing his job on the pitch.

“Real Madrid firmly condemns any behaviour involving racism, xenophobia, or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults made last night by a few supporters in one of the stadium’s corners,” reads the statement, which further mentions the launch of “an investigation to locate and identify the perpetrators of these regrettable and despicable insults, in order to take appropriate disciplinary and legal action.”

It must be said, the dramatic evening at the Santiago Bernabéu cannot be blamed on the Catalan players. With defensive lapses from Ferland Mendy and Lucas Vazquez, as well as a completely missed match by Kylian Mbappé with his multiple offside calls, the Madrid team effectively handed Barça the upper hand. We await the next developments in this case of racism, which unfortunately taints La Liga once again.
