Antonio Rüdiger has opened up about his journey back to fitness during his appearance at the Icon League in Stuttgart, a competition celebrating former players. The Real Madrid defender has been sidelined for nearly two months due to an injury sustained during training on September 12. However, he is now on the verge of returning to competitive action, emphasizing that he took the necessary time to ensure a safe comeback.
“Being injured is what I hate the most,” Rüdiger admitted. “My return is imminent. I needed this time because the pre-season after the Club World Cup was very short. I am eager to get back on the pitch, but it was essential for me to disconnect, both mentally and physically. I’m happy to be coming back.” His words reflect a player who has faced considerable challenges but remains determined to contribute once again.
A Season of Sacrifice
Last season, Rüdiger played a pivotal role for both Real Madrid and the German national team, featuring in nearly every match despite dealing with knee discomfort. This wear and tear culminated in an operation last April due to a significant injury. “It was crazy, but I would do it again if necessary. I was in pain, but that’s just who I am. I always want to help, and I could still run,” he recalled, showcasing his relentless spirit and commitment to the game.
A Mentor for Young Talents
In addition to discussing his recovery, Rüdiger praised the development of young midfielder Arda Güler, whom he has taken under his wing since Güler’s arrival at the club. “He’s like a little brother to me,” Rüdiger stated. “It was tough for him at first, but it was only a matter of time before he adapted. I told him: ‘Your time will come sooner than you think; you just have to be ready.’ He came from Turkey with a slimmer physique and had to catch up, which he has done impressively. He’s young and very professional; his talent speaks for itself.”
As Rüdiger edges closer to his return, fans will be eager to see how his experience and leadership can bolster Real Madrid’s defensive lineup in the upcoming matches. With his determination and mentorship of younger players like Güler, Rüdiger is set not only to enhance the team’s performance but also contribute significantly to its future.
