Thibaut Courtois reached a significant milestone this Sunday, securing his 200th victory with Real Madrid in a hard-fought match against AlavĂ©s. Following the game, the Belgian goalkeeper reflected on this symbolic achievement and the overall performance of his team. He addressed a controversial moment involving VinĂcius JĂşnior, who was denied a penalty after what many considered a foul in the box. “I was far from the action, but there was definitely contact,” Courtois stated. “The referee believed it was minimal, which is why he didn’t award the penalty. However, with VinĂcius charging at speed and maneuvering quickly, even a slight touch can lead to a fall. I was surprised by the decision, but ultimately relieved that it didn’t affect our victory.”
In his 200th win wearing the Madrid colors, Courtois expressed his delight: “Reaching 200 victories is fantastic, but this season we need to add many more. Today, we showed great character. We gave everything for the win, which came from an impressive individual effort. It’s a wonderful victory, and we must continue to work hard.”
Discussing the match held at Mendizorroza, Courtois acknowledged that not everything went according to plan. “This is a crucial victory for us,” he commented. “While we didn’t play our best game, winning and taking home three points was essential. We need to maintain this momentum and aim for wins against Talavera on Wednesday and Sevilla at home to finish the year strongly.”
As Real Madrid looks ahead in the 2024-2025 season under Carlo Ancelotti‘s guidance, Courtois’ leadership and performance will be vital as they pursue further victories and titles.
