After the 2-0 win over Getafe, Thibaut Courtois took a swipe at Kylian Mbappe on Real Madrid TV.
Real Madrid are back to winning ways after losing at Anfield to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday. This Sunday at the Bernabéu, the Casa Blanca club won comfortably 2-0 against Getafe thanks to a decisive performance from Kylian Mbappe.
Criticised for his below-par performance against Liverpool, Kylian Mbappe responded with a first-half gem in the Spanish league on Sunday. Set up by Jude Bellingham, the French striker unleashed a sensational shot to put Real Madrid ahead.
But Kylian Mbappe should have finished the game with more goals. The French striker had several clear-cut chances against Getafe in the second half, including two one-on-ones. But unfortunately, the France captain missed everything, much to the dismay of his team-mates, like Thibaut Courtois.

‘Well, we reacted well after the defeat the other day. They’re an intense team who try to shorten games. We could have scored two more goals. In the second half, we forgot to play. Even though we created chances. What’s a shame is that Kylian (Mbappé) couldn’t finish them off. I’m sure the goals will come, he’ll score a lot. We’re going about our business. We have to do our job and in May we’ll see. We’re concentrating on ourselves. We’ve improved a lot and we need to keep going like this. We have two difficult games ahead of us, but if you want to win the league, you have to win in these stadiums,’ Thibaut Courtois told Real Madrid TV after the match.
Courtois asks Mbappé to defend
After commenting on the finishing problems of Kylian Mbappé, who he believes scored two more goals against Getafe on Sunday, Thibaut Courtois insisted on a rather crucial point.
Speaking to Real Madrid TV, the Casa Blanca club’s Belgian goalkeeper called on Kylian Mbappe and Carlo Ancelotti’s other strikers to carry out their defensive duties during matches. According to him, football is played with eleven players and all eleven players on the pitch must defend.
‘That means the whole team has to be committed to fighting. Whether you’re a striker or a winger, all eleven of us have to defend. Today we were lucky with the goalposts, but that counts for something too. 250 games with Real Madrid? It’s very special, it’s something I could only dream of at the best club in the world,’ added the Red Devil.
