Defensively unstable and searching for notable solutions to strengthen Carlo Ancelotti’s team, Florentino Pérez and his collaborators are hit with bad news regarding a target that was reportedly on the right track.
If the information is confirmed, it would be a real blow for the Madrid management. Looking for a new left-back to replace Ferland Mendy, who has been struggling in recent months, Florentino Pérez and his scouts have turned their attention to Alphonso Davies. In the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich, the Canadian left-back has reportedly been in advanced talks with Real Madrid for months regarding a free transfer next summer.
The bad news regarding Alphonso Davies

While Marca reported a few days ago that things were nearly finalised for Davies to join the Spanish capital next season, bad news has now emerged. According to Sky Sport Germany on Thursday, Bayern Munich, unwilling to lose their star player, “has made significant progress in negotiating a contract extension with Alphonso.” Sources close to the matter reveal that talks are ongoing and positive, with key financial terms already discussed.
Although there are still some details to finalise between both parties, optimism is high that a long-term deal will be signed. Indicating that Real Madrid’s interest is far from being his priority, the Canadian full-back has reportedly even agreed to make significant concessions regarding his salary demands. According to Kerry Hau, who broke the news on Thursday, Manchester United, who were also pursuing Alphonso Davies, are now aware that Bayern Munich has regained the upper hand in the deal. Talks are expected to progress further by Christmas, with an official announcement likely soon.
A major setback for Real Madrid

It must be said that this is a highly disappointing development for Real Madrid, who had made this target a top priority. In their quest to recruit the best players available on free transfers, Florentino Pérez will now need to act quickly to identify alternative targets to strengthen the left side of the defence, where Ferland Mendy is no longer up to the task. Despite Fran García’s strong performances in recent weeks, Madrid cannot afford to rest on their laurels.
Today, finding a quality left-back has become a rare commodity in the transfer market. While things are improving in central defence with young Raúl Asensio stepping up admirably following Eder Militao’s serious injury, the pressing issues remain the right flank, currently manned by Lucas Vázquez, who is not entirely comfortable as a right-back, and the left side. With the bad news regarding Alphonso Davies, who is now unlikely to join Madrid next season, all eyes are on Florentino Pérez and his team to see how they will respond.
