Real Madrid defender Éder Militão is resolute about his chances of making Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, despite facing a significant injury setback. The Brazilian international sustained a ruptured biceps femoris tendon in his left leg during a league match against Celta Vigo on December 7, 2024. Although recovery timelines suggest he could be sidelined until April 2026, Militão remains defiant, asserting, “I am 100% confident” that he will be fit in time for the tournament.

Militão arrived in Rio de Janeiro on crutches to begin his rehabilitation process and emphasized that his main focus is on returning to peak condition for the World Cup. “No return date has been set. The priority is the World Cup,” he stated, reflecting his unwavering commitment to representing his country once again. Having played an integral role for Brazil in the previous World Cup, his presence in the squad is highly anticipated by fans and teammates alike.

Struggles with Injuries

The 27-year-old has endured a challenging few seasons marred by serious injuries. In August 2023, he suffered a torn left ACL, which sidelined him for several months, and he only returned to action in March 2024. Prior to that, he faced another lengthy absence of eight months due to a right ACL tear and meniscus damage. These setbacks have raised concerns about his fitness ahead of such a prestigious tournament.

Coach’s Stance and Upcoming Matches

Carlo Ancelotti, who transitioned from managing Real Madrid to taking over the Brazil national team in May 2024, has made it clear that only players who are “100 percent fit” will be considered for the World Cup squad. This adds pressure on Militão as he navigates his recovery process. He is expected to miss crucial international friendlies against France and Croatia scheduled for March, which would have been key opportunities to impress Ancelotti.

Brazil’s World Cup campaign kicks off against Morocco on June 13 in New York, followed by a match against Haiti six days later in Philadelphia, and concludes with a group stage clash against Scotland in Miami. As Brazil aims to secure its sixth World Cup title, Militão’s recovery will be pivotal not just for him but for the team’s defensive solidity.

Militão’s determination and resilience are commendable; can he overcome these hurdles and reclaim his spot in the starting lineup? Only time will tell as fans await updates on his recovery journey.
