After departing Real Madrid this summer to join Albacete, Jesús Vallejo opened up about his career journey in an exclusive interview with Post United. The Spanish defender shared insights into his beginnings at Zaragoza and his time at the prestigious club. Vallejo reflected on pivotal moments that shaped his path, including a significant decision early in his career.
During his formative years at Zaragoza, Vallejo faced tempting offers from top clubs like Villarreal and Atlético Madrid. However, he chose loyalty over opportunity, stating, “No one had ever asked me that question. When I was in the junior team at Zaragoza, I felt valued and decided to stay.” His commitment to the club paid off when Real Madrid came calling. “When Real made their interest known, it was a game-changer. I was on holiday when my agent informed me they would activate my €5 million release clause. I was thrilled and eager to return to Zaragoza to finalize everything,” he added.
A Crucial Loan Spell
Before fully integrating into Real Madrid’s setup, Vallejo embarked on a loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. This experience proved beneficial for his development. “I had offers from several teams in Spain when I went on loan to Eintracht. I preferred to stay in Spain initially, but Real Madrid convinced me by highlighting Dani Carvajal‘s success story. My time in Germany was incredibly comfortable and enriching,” he noted.
Star-Studded Experiences
Returning to the Santiago Bernabéu, Vallejo found himself amidst football legends. He particularly admired Cristiano Ronaldo’s work ethic and consistency. “Cristiano impressed me the most in the Real Madrid locker room. His dedication sets him apart; he is always willing to help and share advice,” he said. Vallejo acknowledged that during his first season with the team, playing time was limited, but he appreciated Zinedine Zidane’s clarity and support as a coach. “Zidane was always straightforward; he helped us understand our roles while allowing us the chance to earn our place,” he explained.
The memories of playing at the iconic Bernabéu remain vivid for Vallejo. “The Bernabéu is special; it has an atmosphere like no other,” he remarked, emphasizing the significance of representing such a historic club.
As Vallejo embarks on this new chapter with Albacete, fans are left wondering what lies ahead for the talented defender who has already experienced so much at such a young age.
