After a fulfilling season with Real Madrid, Joselu embarked on a new chapter in Qatar, yet his connection with the club remains strong. At 35 years old, the Spanish forward emphasizes that he chose a project focused on stability and personal growth at a pivotal moment in his career. Following a successful stint with the Merengues and winning the Euro with Spain, moving to Qatar felt like a natural progression. “This might be the last big decision of my career,” he admits.

Joselu’s time at Real Madrid significantly reshaped his life. The fame, media exposure, and public recognition transformed his daily existence. “You go from a normal life to something completely different,” he reflects, recalling the constant attention he receives even in Doha. Every time he returns to Madrid, the affection from fans remains palpable. “People ask me to come back,” he smiles, aware of the lasting impact he made during his time at the club.

A Lasting Bond

Despite being thousands of kilometers away from the Santiago BernabĂ©u, Joselu continues to closely follow every match of his former team. “I watch all their games, even if it ends at 1 AM here,” he shares. The former number nine maintains regular contact with teammates and club staff, often feeling as if he’s still part of the squad. His insights into Real Madrid’s current challenges reveal a thoughtful perspective on their tactical and mental struggles. He notes that the absence of a traditional number nine who can anchor defenses and create space has been detrimental. “That type of player is becoming rare,” he laments, recalling how his presence allowed stars like Jude Bellingham to thrive during his final season.

The Importance of Leadership

Joselu also emphasizes the significance of leadership within the squad. He speaks highly of players like Dani Carvajal and Nacho, who embody the spirit of Real Madrid and pass down its ethos daily. Without assigning blame, he questions whether there has been a decline in this vital characteristic among current players. “When you play with that Madridista spirit, you always give more,” he asserts.

He reserves special praise for Carlo Ancelotti, whom he describes as “a father figure for everyone in the dressing room,” highlighting Ancelotti’s ability to manage egos while fostering unity among players. When discussing Xabi Alonso‘s potential return to the club, Joselu remains cautious: “He knows the club well, but the demands at Real Madrid are unlike anywhere else.” While Joselu continues to score and achieve success in Qatar with Al Gharafa, part of him will always remain tied to the BernabĂ©u.
