Currently injured with Manchester City, Rodri is still nurturing his dream of wearing the white shirt of Real Madrid.
Since joining Manchester City, Rodri has become one of the best footballers in the world. He has consistently helped the Skyblues win major titles, including the Premier League and the Champions League. Since his terrible injury, however, Pep Guardiola’s club have been suffering. For the first time under the Catalan coach, Manchester City have suffered four consecutive defeats in all competitions. And for many, the loss of an important and imposing player like Rodri is the real culprit.

Crowned Ballon d’Or 2024 ahead of all the Real Madrid stars, such as Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal, Rodri is not exactly in the hearts of the Casa Blanca fans at the moment, especially after his outings, which were deemed a little too clumsy. Even yesterday, he dared to make his unexpected comments about Cristiano Ronaldo, which really set the web alight. With his Colchonero past and his many outbursts, Rodri is no longer truly in the hearts of Real Madrid fans.
Rodri still wants to play for Real Madrid
Even if Real Madrid fans are angry with him, Rodri wants to give himself a chance of one day representing the greatest club in the history of football. The Manchester City midfielder recently opened the door to a possible move to Real Madrid. In an interview with El Larguero, the Spaniard expressed his admiration for Los Merengues.
“Obviously, when Real Madrid call you, the best club in history and the most successful, it’s an honour. You always have to be careful,” he said. These words, rare in the world of modern football, show the extent to which Real Madrid continues to represent a dream for many players, even those playing for prestigious clubs such as Manchester City. However, a number of obstacles stand in the way of Rodri’s eventual arrival in Madrid.

Currently recovering from a torn cruciate ligament, Rodri will have to prove that he can return to his best. What’s more, his contract with Manchester City runs until 2027, making a short-term transfer difficult. Despite the potential interest in Rodri, Real Madrid are currently focusing on other needs. The first of these is defensive recruitment, with two full-backs and one or two centre-backs.
Secondly, they need to strengthen their midfield with the probable departures of Luka Modric and Dani Ceballos, as well as the uncertainty surrounding Aurélien Tchouaméni. The club could consider recruiting a midfielder, but this project still seems medium-term. Rodri’s admiration for Real Madrid could work in his favour in the future, especially if the club is looking to strengthen its midfield with an experienced and versatile player. However, his age (he will be 29 next June) and his recent injury could weigh in the balance.
