The long-awaited match between Valencia and Real Madrid, originally scheduled for 2 January following the tragedy in Valencia, has been rescheduled. The official announcement has just been made.

After heated discussions and an official appeal, the LaLiga match between Valencia and Real Madrid will be moved. Originally scheduled for January 2, the match will now be held on January 3, 2024 at 8pm (Spanish time). The rescheduling has been approved by the professional competitions judge, with the support of the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE).

The two clubs concerned had lodged a separate complaint with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Madrid launched the proceedings on 7 December, followed by Valencia on 8 December. Both clubs had expressed their dissatisfaction with the initial date. However, according to the local press, the body has made its decision: the Valencia vs Real Madrid clash will take place on 3 January 2025.

According to the official version, Thursday 2 January, the date initially envisaged, was not conducive to the players’ preparation, in particular due to the constraints associated with the end-of-year festivities. The AFE therefore argued in favour of rescheduling the match to give the players an extra day to recover from their holiday obligations and prepare for this important match in the best possible conditions.

With this decision, Valencia and Real Madrid will be able to concentrate fully on what promises to be a decisive encounter. Real Madrid, in particular, will be looking for a win to snatch La Liga leadership from the hands of Barcelona. Stay tuned!
