Xabi Alonso addressed the media following Real Madrid‘s narrow 2-1 victory over AlavĂ©s, highlighting the competitive nature of the match and the significance of securing three points. The match was anything but straightforward for Los Blancos, who initially took control but struggled to maintain their dominance as the game progressed. “We started very well, but then we lost a bit of control,” Alonso explained. “The second half began positively for us, yet we conceded a goal from the only mistake made by Valdepeñas, who performed admirably throughout.”

Alonso praised his team’s resilience, noting that the crucial second goal ultimately secured the win. “It feels good to walk away with three points. Winning was our primary goal today,” he stated. The coach emphasized the importance of unity within the squad, especially given the numerous absences they faced, including several suspended players. “We are focused on our game and preparing for matches every three days. Today’s victory is vital, particularly under these circumstances.”

The debut of Valdepeñas was also a highlight for Alonso. “I want to congratulate him not only for making his debut but also for his overall performance. He was competitive and consistent, and debuting with Real Madrid is always a special occasion.” Looking ahead, Alonso reminded everyone that maintaining momentum is essential. “We must keep this dynamic going; one match is not enough. We have the Cup next and then a home game against Sevilla. The road ahead is long, and while this was an important moment, we need to build on the positives from today’s performance.”

Reflecting on the team’s progress compared to their previous outing against Celta Vigo, Alonso remarked, “We all prefer today’s performance over that against Celta. Everyone can agree on that. The match against Celta was not good; we lacked many things. However, today we saw positive aspects that we need in every game.” He concluded by stressing the need for consistency as they navigate through La Liga‘s challenges: “We require stability and regularity; that’s what La Liga demands from us. If this serves as a lesson, let’s not forget it.”

As Real Madrid prepares for upcoming fixtures, fans will be eager to see if Alonso’s side can build on this vital victory and continue their pursuit of success in both domestic and European competitions.
