Unemployed since his departure from Real Madrid in 2021, Zinedine Zidane is being considered for a third term. According to Mundo Deportivo, the French legend has a very clear position.

Real Madrid have been going through a rather complicated period since the start of the season. Completely out of sorts in La Liga and the Champions League, Carlo Ancelotti is no longer able to cope. The club from the Spanish capital, who signed Kylian Mbappe this summer, are finding it hard to impose themselves. Even at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid are no longer a force to be reckoned with and are on a run of two consecutive home defeats.

This situation is undermining Carlo Ancelotti, who signed a two-year extension at the end of last season. The Transalpine coach, who wants to finish his career at Real Madrid, is now in the hot seat, and yet another disappointing performance could be his undoing.

Ancelotti

According to the Spanish press, Real Madrid are considering the various alternatives in the event of Carlo Ancelotti’s departure. One of the names that is being bandied about is that of Zinedine Zidane. The French coach, who has already had two successful spells in charge of the Casa Blanca, has been free on the market since 2021, the year of his unexpected departure from Real Madrid.

Zidane not considering a return to Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane’s history with Real Madrid has been marked by two periods of resounding success. During his first spell, between 2016 and 2018, he led Los Merengues to a historic treble in the Champions League. This glorious period consolidated his place in the club’s pantheon. Returning in March 2019, Zizou also won a Supercup and a Championship before leaving once more in May 2021. His departure was abrupt, accompanied by a letter revealing the tensions that existed with the management.

Despite a re-established relationship with Florentino Pérez, Zidane does not appear to be in any hurry to take up the reins again. Indeed, the prospect of a return for a ‘third chapter’ is not on the agenda. According to Mundo Deportivo newspaper, the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner has no plans whatsoever of returning to the Madrid bench, despite potential interest. His priority seems to lie elsewhere, and even a reunion with Kylian Mbappé when the latter was presented as a Real Madrid player was not enough to revive the idea of a return.

Zidane

A dream in blue for Zidane

Zinedine Zidane has never hidden his ambition to one day take charge of the French national team, a dream he has nurtured since leaving Real Madrid. The French coach is patiently awaiting an opportunity on the Les Bleus bench, hoping to succeed Didier Deschamps when his contract expires in 2026. This position, synonymous with achievement for the former 1998 FIFA World Cup winner, is considered to be the pinnacle of his coaching career.

Since his departure in 2021, Zidane has turned down all offers, preferring to remain available for the possibility of taking charge of the French national team. So even if Ancelotti were to leave, Real Madrid would have to explore other avenues. Zidane, on the other hand, seems determined to wait for the perfect opportunity to guide Les Bleus, and has closed the door on a new chapter at Madrid for good.
