David Alaba: Vinícius Júnior’s only major demand to extend his contract

David Alaba: Vinícius Júnior’s only major demand to extend his contract

In ongoing discussions with Real Madrid’s management to extend his contract beyond 2027, Vinícius Júnior has set a major condition. As a star at the club, the Brazilian forward can no longer tolerate being out-earned by David Alaba.

For months, Vinícius Júnior’s future has been a hot topic in Madrid. Between Kylian Mbappé’s arrival and a massive offer from Saudi Arabia, the 24-year-old was reportedly unsettled and deeply reflecting on his next move. Torn between continuing his adventure at Spain’s biggest club and staying in La Liga, where he enjoys significant media exposure, or securing a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia, the Brazilian has made his decision. After his outstanding performance at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Vini made it clear that he is staying.

Salary: Vini no longer wants to earn less than Alaba

David Alaba: Vinícius Júnior’s only major demand to extend his contract

Speaking to the media a few days later, he reaffirmed his commitment to reaching an agreement with Real Madrid’s management to extend his contract beyond 2027. According to sources close to the club’s board, Vinícius Júnior has made just one request: to earn as much as Kylian Mbappé. Now fully aware of his global status, the Brazilian international struggles to understand why he should earn less than David Alaba, for instance. According to recent reports on Real Madrid’s highest earners, the Austrian defender receives €23 million per year, while Vini earns €21 million.

At 32 years old and now overtaken by Raúl Asensio in the hierarchy of the squad’s best centre-backs, David Alaba is no longer delivering performances that justify his salary. Naturally, it makes sense for Vinícius Júnior to demand a higher wage and move closer to the €33 million that Mbappé, the squad’s top earner, takes home annually. According to our sources, Florentino Pérez has already received Vini’s request and agrees that a significant pay rise is warranted.

However, the club’s management is still evaluating the financial implications before determining the exact amount to offer the Brazilian winger. Given Real Madrid’s careful approach to wage structure, the board is keen to make an informed decision. At present, the situation remains calm, and all parties are at ease.

Under contract until 2027, Vinícius Júnior is expected to finalise an agreement with the club before the end of the current season, securing a contract extension for a few more years and increasing his salary from €21 million to nearly €30 million per year.
