The Madrid legend is steadily closing in on the milestone of 1,000 career goals. Facing Al-Wehda this Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 925th career goal, his 17th of the season with Al-Nassr – all at the age of 40.
“If I manage to score 1,000 career goals, that would be great, but if not, I’ll still be proud of what I’ve achieved,” Cristiano Ronaldo recently stated. After celebrating his 40th birthday on 5 February, the Portuguese forward continues to carry his team in Saudi Arabia. Still as decisive as ever in attack, the former Real Madrid star once again shone this Tuesday. Named in the starting XI by Stefano Pioli for the 22nd round of the Saudi Pro League against bottom-placed Al-Wehda, CR7 found the net in the 48th minute, bringing his goal tally to 925.
Perfectly set up by young Brazilian Angelo just after the break, the Portugal captain rose high to power the ball into the back of the net. This marked Ronaldo’s 17th goal of the season, allowing him to reclaim the top spot in the league’s goal-scoring charts ahead of Karim Benzema (16 goals). At 40, the Portuguese forward continues to achieve remarkable feats.
Even if he isn’t the most complete player – and therefore not the greatest of all time, according to Benzema – CR7 commands respect. Given his current form, Cristiano can still score plenty of goals. He is now just 85 goals away from the phenomenal 1,000-goal record, a feat no footballer has achieved in the modern era.
