Days after the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16, AtlĂ©tico Madrid refuses to let go of Real Madrid. After a warning from UEFA, Enrique Cerezo’s club targets the Madrid stars.

More than a week after the match between AtlĂ©tico Madrid and Real Madrid at the Metropolitano, it is not just the final score that has made an impact. While much has been said about JuliĂĄn Álvarez’s controversial penalty, which was annulled for a double contact, other controversies have surrounded the match. From a denied penalty to controversial behaviour, UEFA has been repeatedly called upon by the Colchoneros to shed light on key events.

Speaking of controversial behaviour, four of Carlo Ancelotti’s players are now in UEFA’s sights. In fact, considering the match report, which mentions objects being thrown onto the pitch, the governing body of European football has launched a disciplinary procedure against the Colchoneros. Already frustrated by the controversy surrounding JuliĂĄn Álvarez’s penalty—refusing to believe he touched the ball twice—the AtlĂ©tico Madrid management has pointed fingers at four of Carlo Ancelotti’s players in their defence.

In a letter sent to UEFA officials, AtlĂ©tico Madrid condemned inappropriate behaviour from certain Real Madrid players, both during and after the match. To support their claims, the club sent UEFA no fewer than four videos showing actions deemed serious. Among these clips, we can see defender RĂŒdiger mimicking a “cut” gesture towards the stands, VinĂcius JĂșnior provoking the supporters, Ceballos making an obscene gesture (a middle finger), and MbappĂ© exhibiting inappropriate behaviour.

By submitting these images, AtlĂ©tico Madrid hopes that UEFA will review the evidence carefully and take disciplinary action against the players involved. It is clear that the defeat on March 12 still sticks in the throats of the Colchoneros. With their Champions League hopes for this season now dashed, Real Madrid’s rivals are determined not to leave without a sanction being handed down to the Madrid players.
