A few hours before the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad, Carlo Ancelotti unveils the Real Madrid squad list. Three major absences are noted.

Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad at Anoeta this Wednesday. After La Liga, the club from the Spanish capital takes on the “Txuri-Urdin” side, which means “White and Blue” in Basque, in the Copa del Rey semi-final. Following the intense match between FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid (4-4) in the other semi-final yesterday, this Wednesday’s encounter also promises to be tense. For this clash, Carlo Ancelotti can rely on a largely competitive squad. Before travelling to Anoeta, the 65-year-old coach revealed the list of selected players. Although he had announced the presence of Kylian Mbappé, who underwent dental surgery earlier this week, the French forward is ultimately absent.

Apart from the absence of the number 9, who would have added much more threat to Real Madrid’s attack, the squad is also missing goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Federico Valverde. Unlike Kylian Mbappé, who is sidelined for health reasons, the other two key players will not feature in this first leg purely due to a technical decision. Fede Valverde is being given a few days of rest to recover after a series of matches, while Courtois has been left out to allow Andriy Lunin to gain more playing time.

As for the rest, Endrick, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, and Brahim Diaz are available in attack. In midfield, Jude Bellingham, Dani Ceballos, Arda Güler—who has been lacking game time—Aurélien Tchouaméni, Luka Modric, and Eduardo Camavinga will also be present. In defence, there are no changes, with Antonio Rüdiger, David Alaba, Raúl Asensio, Ferland Mendy, Lucas Vázquez, and Fran García all included. Completely ruled out for the rest of the season, Vallejo will not travel to Anoeta due to a femoral biceps injury in his left leg, as confirmed by the club.
