This one is going to hit morale hard. While Antonio Rüdiger’s injury is already a major blow for Real Madrid, David Alaba is also heading back to the treatment room. On Tuesday, the club announced the devastating news for Carlo Ancelotti.
This time, Real Madrid are truly in trouble. Already without Carvajal and Éder Militão, Carlo Ancelotti’s side is facing yet another wave of defensive injuries. Now entering a crucial phase of the season, with key clashes in both La Liga and the Champions League, the Madrid side will have to cope without Antonio Rüdiger, who was injured in Saturday night’s league match against Espanyol Barcelona, as well as David Alaba.

Many had hoped the Austrian defender would fill in for Rüdiger against Atlético Madrid and Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League play-off next week, but Real Madrid have now announced yet another muscle relapse. “Following medical tests carried out on our player David Alaba by Real Madrid’s medical staff, a muscle injury to the adductor in his left leg has been diagnosed,” the club officially stated on Tuesday.
This is a major setback for Los Blancos just hours before their Copa del Rey quarter-final against Leganés. According to initial reports, the player, who has already missed over a year of competition due to a cruciate ligament rupture, is expected to be sidelined for around two weeks. As things stand, Madrid will have to rely on Raúl Asensio, Aurélien Tchouaméni, or even Ferland Mendy in central defence. It’s looking increasingly difficult given Real Madrid’s defensive struggles this season.
