Currently in Qatar to play the final of the Continental Cup of Clubs with Real Madrid this Wednesday, Vinicius Junior is expected to win the FIFA The Best award for 2024. Brazilian media confirm the news.
Having delivered a phenomenal season with Real Madrid, Vinicius Junior missed out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or on 28 October. Touted as the favourite for this year’s award ahead of Jude Bellingham and Rodri, the 24-year-old Brazilian suffered a major disappointment just hours before the France Football ceremony. Against all odds, it was Rodri, Manchester City’s midfielder, who claimed the prize. While the decision caused a stir, the Real Madrid star is likely to find solace this Tuesday in Doha, Qatar, where the awards ceremony for the best players of the season is being held.
GeGlobo announces Vinicius’ triumph

Before attempting to secure a second trophy of the new season with Real Madrid this Wednesday in their clash against the Mexicans of Pachuca in the final of the Intercontinental Cup of Clubs, Vinicius Junior will attend the FIFA The Best ceremony. According to revelations from the Brazilian outlet GeGlobo, the dazzling winger is set to be crowned as the best player in the world for 2024. Following the debacle or controversy that led to Rodri winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or, this would be a genuine relief for the 24-year-old.
If confirmed at the gala set for this Tuesday in Qatar, Vinicius Junior will become the first Brazilian to win the Best Player of the Year award since Kaká, who was honoured in 2007 with both the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA World Player titles. The Real Madrid star will thus join the exclusive circle of Brazilians who have achieved these prestigious individual accolades. This includes legends such as Kaká, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho (Ballon d’Or), and Romário (FIFA World Player).
It is worth noting that Florentino Pérez, who criticised UEFA’s dealings during the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony, is also in Qatar alongside the Real Madrid squad. Before heading to Lusail Stadium to witness his team’s clash with Pachuca FC, the prominent Spanish executive might get to experience Vinicius Junior’s unforgettable evening this Tuesday.
