As Real Madrid takes a break from competition like all other clubs, Carlo Ancelotti continues working extensively on his squad. Very firm with Jesús Vallejo, who suffered a major humiliation last weekend, the Madrid coach refuses to change his stance.
Real Madrid rarely makes mistakes with its players. If Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz remain the biggest flops of recent years, Jesús Vallejo will likely not escape that category. Arriving in Madrid in 2015 for €5 million from Zaragoza, the Spanish central defender has never managed to establish himself in the white shirt. Despite being under contract with Los Merengues for nine seasons, Vallejo has only played 32 matches. Often sent out on loan, he never succeeded in making an impact, particularly at Eintracht Frankfurt or Granada.
The ultimate humiliation for Vallejo

Urged to leave Real Madrid last summer, Jesús Vallejo stayed on, feeling he could turn the situation around despite Carlo Ancelotti not counting on him. With a series of defensive injuries, it was expected that he would benefit from significant playing time. Unfortunately, his catastrophic appearance against Alavés on 24 September didn’t work in his favour. While Real was comfortably leading 3-0, the 27-year-old defender completely unbalanced the team after coming on: the result was 2 goals conceded in two minutes.
Thoroughly disappointed after that match, Carlo Ancelotti crossed Vallejo off his list, a player he hadn’t intended to rely on at the start of the season. To confirm his decision, the Madrid coach preferred to trust 21-year-old Raúl Asencio last Saturday, handing him his professional debut after Eder Militão’s serious injury. While some in Spain find Jesús Vallejo’s situation dismal, as Defensa Central notes, Florentino Pérez has made his decision.
In Spain, one agent has openly stated that Vallejo remains in Madrid because of a favour from Pérez to the president of Real Zaragoza, where Vallejo trained. “Vallejo is of no significance: he’s at Real Madrid due to personal favours granted to the president of Zaragoza,” revealed Manolo Romero, a former Real Madrid scout, on Carrusel Radio this Tuesday.
Florentino Pérez wants to find a club for Vallejo

Saddened by the situation of the 27-year-old, who has always been appreciative and respectful, the Real Madrid president discussed with Carlo Ancelotti about ending this humiliating situation. According to reports, it has been agreed that Jesús Vallejo will leave Madrid in January. Without playing time, the defender is likely to go to a lower division to get more minutes. This is, without doubt, the best decision.
With defenders already in Real Madrid’s sights for the winter transfer market, Jesús Vallejo, who has been relegated below reserve players, would be wise to pack his bags. The question remains whether a club will raise a hand to offer a glimmer of hope to the defender’s unfortunate career.
