As Real Madrid stay alert to find a solution to Eder Militao’s severe injury, one option is now being considered – but it’s not the return of Sergio Ramos.

A few hours after the epic match against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid, delighted by Barcelona’s defeat in La Liga on Sunday, are making bold decisions for the remainder of the season. Currently plagued by serious injuries that are thinning out the squad, Carlo Ancelotti’s team are determined to stay in good form. To replace Eder Militao, who will not feature again this season following a torn ligament in his right knee last Saturday, the management have made a decision.

No return of Sergio Ramos

Despite pressure from some Madrid fans who are hoping for a Sergio Ramos return, as he’s currently a free agent who could join immediately as an emergency signing and bring experience to the squad, Florentino Pérez and his colleagues have revealed their stance. To silence those calling for an urgent signing, Real Madrid have made it clear they want sustainable and viable plans. As reported by Madrid specialist Josep Pedrerol on the show El Chiringuito TV on Sunday, the management are keen to focus on younger players.

Following an excellent debut performance from Raúl Asensio (21), who made his first professional appearance with Real Madrid last Saturday against Osasuna, the management see a promising opportunity to test the depth of their reserves. Just as Barça have done with Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal, Real’s young talents are now expected to get their chance to shine before the January transfer window. Essentially, a return of Sergio Ramos is now off the table for Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s strategy

According to reports, the Madrid manager, who also agrees with the board’s plan, intends to rely on Raúl Asensio to cover for Militao until Aurélien Tchouaméni returns. Given the midfield competition, the French player will fill in as a centre-back alongside Raúl Asensio until January. Tchouaméni, who has been utilised in this role on several occasions, should have no difficulty in holding the line. For Madrid’s upcoming fixtures in November, Asensio is expected to partner Rüdiger in defence.

This is a bold choice by the board and Madrid’s coaching staff, who remain firm in their methods. It’s worth noting that if Ancelotti’s planned solutions prove successful, Florentino Pérez is prepared not to sign any defender in January, especially with David Alaba on his way back. Out for about a month, the Austrian defender is expected to return to action by January.
