After Real Madrid’s victory over Getafe this Sunday in the 15th round of La Liga, one name particularly caught Carlo Ancelotti’s attention. Despite a strong performance from Kylian Mbappé, the defender completely won everyone over.
Real Madrid continues their excellent run in the league. While things are tough in the Champions League, things are going relatively well in La Liga. Apart from the only defeat against FC Barcelona in the Clasico on 26th October, Carlo Ancelotti’s side has been showing great promise in the league. This Sunday, it was Getafe who suffered the result from the Madrid players. Led by a solid Jude Bellingham (scorer and provider) and Kylian Mbappé (who scored the second goal), the Merengue side now has 33 points (one point behind Barcelona, who have one match in hand).
Fran Garcia gains ground over Mendy

While the team as a whole delivered a strong performance, Fran Garcia particularly impressed. Arriving in the Spanish capital in 2023, the young left-back, who is the backup for Ferland Mendy, has been shining in recent weeks. Once again positioned on the left side of defence this Sunday (for the second consecutive time after Leganés), the 25-year-old Spaniard provided a lot of attacking options. Very close to Kylian Mbappé, he touched the ball frequently and created danger in front of Getafe’s goal on several occasions.
After the 2-0 victory, Carlo Ancelotti didn’t hide his satisfaction. “In the last few matches, I have really liked Fran Garcia. We must take into account that there is another player (Mendy) who has won the Champions League twice,” said the Madrid manager, who refuses to give up on the 29-year-old French defender, who is normally the first choice for left-back.
In any case, Fran Garcia didn’t only impress Ancelotti. After the match, several Madrid players highlighted the excellent performance of the young 25-year-old defender. Although he can be vulnerable defensively at times (something he can improve), Garcia is a significant asset going forward. Rumoured to be a candidate for a move away from Real Madrid at the end of the season due to the likely arrival of Alphonso Davies, the former Rayo Vallecano player can turn things in his favour if he continues on this excellent trajectory.
