The Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior, has just won the FIFA The Best 2024 Player of the Year award. Despite the presence of Rodri, who was in the running, the voters crowned the 24-year-old Brazilian star.

This was announced earlier today. Currently in Qatar to play in the 2024 FIFA Club World Cup final against Mexico’s Pachuca FC this Wednesday at the Lusail Stadium, Vinicius Junior took the opportunity to claim a major trophy. Just weeks after the Ballon d’Or 2024 debacle, which went to Rodri against all expectations, the 24-year-old Brazilian now claims the FIFA The Best 2024 award as the best player in the world.

Handed the trophy by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and in front of Florentino Pérez, who made the trip, Vinicius officially took hold of this major, largely uncontested accolade. It is a well-deserved crowning achievement for the dazzling Real Madrid player, who has had a stellar season on the front line. After the voting, Vini tallied 48 votes, ahead of Rodri, who came second with 43 votes. Jude Bellingham, with 37 points, completed the podium.

Today, Vini becomes the first Brazilian to win the World Player of the Year award since Kaká, who was crowned in 2007. The Madrid star officially joins the very exclusive circle of Brazilians who have won these prestigious individual awards. This includes legends like Kaká, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho (Ballon d’Or), and Romário (FIFA World Player).

It is also worth noting that Carlo Ancelotti also claimed the Best Coach of the Year trophy, as highlighted by Afrique Sport. For the 65-year-old Italian coach, this is a confirmation following his triumph on 28 October with France Football. Also in contention for the Best Goalkeeper of the Year award, Andriy Lunin was surpassed by Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who was crowned once again.
