What bad luck! Just hours before the dangerous away clash against Girona, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid loses the player who often outsmarts defenders with his intelligence and attacking movements.
The bad news and Real Madrid this season: it’s a love story. While their on-pitch results are seriously concerning for Madrid fans, the injuries keep piling up. Currently missing Vinícius Júnior and Eduardo Camavinga, whose absence is sorely felt, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will also have to do without Rodrygo Goes this Saturday in the 16th round of La Liga. After the defeat to Athletic Bilbao last Wednesday, the 23-year-old Brazilian forward had still participated in training sessions.
Rodrygo ruled out at the last minute against Girona

According to Arancha Rodríguez, a journalist for La Cope and commentator on Real Madrid TV, Rodrygo Goes will not feature in Saturday’s clash against Girona at the Montilivi Stadium due to a muscle problem. This is a major blow for the player, who has been plagued by recurring injuries since the start of the season. Having already visited the treatment room three times in just a few months of competition, the 23-year-old forward’s situation is becoming increasingly concerning, as reported by Marca.
Following the announcement on Spanish media, the official statement from the Madrid club was released with further details regarding other players. “Real Madrid travels to Girona to face tonight’s match at Montilivi for the 16th round of La Liga with last-minute absences of Rodrygo, Gonzalo, and Chema. In their place, Yáñez is added to the squad,” reads the statement on the official website.
For Carlo Ancelotti, this is a significant setback, as he will now have to revise his starting lineup. Expected to play as the number 9 against Michel’s side this Saturday, Rodrygo’s absence disrupts the technical staff’s plans. Once again without Vinícius Júnior, Real Madrid will have to rely on Kylian Mbappé to secure a positive result this weekend before the other crucial match against Atalanta Bergamo on Tuesday in the Champions League.
