The match between Valencia and Real Madrid was once again marked by racist incidents directed at Vinicius Jr. While the Brazilian was sent off in the 79th minute, footage showed Valencia fans hurling racist insults and chants at him. These acts provoked outrage on social networks.
Vinicius Jr was shown a straight red card after a clash with Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski. Referee Soto Grado deemed the Brazilian’s action an assault. Naturally, the decision sparked euphoria among the Valencia fans, who loudly celebrated Vinicius’ dismissal.
However, the celebrations soon took a worrying turn. Videos posted on social networks showed chants and gestures insulting Vinicius. Some fans chanted words like ‘imbecile’ and ‘singe’, insults with racist connotations.

Repeated racist acts against Vinicius Jr at Valencia
This is not the first time Vinicius Jr has been the victim of racism at the Mestalla. In May 2023, racist insults were hurled at him, leading to the closure of part of the stadium. Despite this sanction, the incidents are recurring and show that the measures taken are not enough to curb the problem.
Images of this latest incident quickly circulated on social networks. Internet users expressed their anger at these unacceptable acts. Many are calling for tougher penalties to combat racism in stadiums.

In any case, Vinicius Jr has a difficult relationship with Valencia fans. At this match, in addition to the racist chants, he was the target of mockery and insults throughout the match. Chants such as ‘Vinicius, beach ball’ were heard during the first half. These repeated attacks show that the Brazilian player is often targeted. Despite this, Vinicius continued to show his talent on the pitch. His dismissal did not prevent Real Madrid from winning the match 2-1, thanks to goals from Modric and Jude Bellingham.
