After the last FIFA international break of 2024, Real Madrid returns to action. Ahead of Leganés and Liverpool, some very good news has arrived for Carlo Ancelotti and the entire Madrid squad.
Nine matches are all that remain for Real Madrid before the end of the current calendar year. Following a series of games at the Santiago Bernabéu, marked by major disappointments (against Barça and AC Milan), Carlo Ancelotti and his players will embark on seven away trips in the six weeks left this year. While big fixtures await the Madrid team, the biggest one is undoubtedly next Wednesday’s clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
The good news for Carlo Ancelotti

After two defeats and two victories in four matches during the qualifiers for this new Champions League format, Real Madrid needs a strong result against the English side to keep their hopes of direct qualification for the round of 16 alive. While several defensive uncertainties still loom, things are looking brighter in attack. Indeed, when Rodrygo Goes was ruled out for almost the rest of the year due to his new muscle injury against Osasuna, it seemed like a major setback. However, things have progressed faster than expected.
Already back in individual training this week, the 23-year-old forward—who has often brought much-needed dynamism to Madrid’s offensive play—participated in part of the group training session this Thursday. Under the close supervision of Real Madrid’s medical staff, Rodrygo Goes is accelerating his recovery, according to Marca. Feeling good, his return date could now be moved forward.
Reports suggest that the player, who gave Borussia Dortmund coach Nuri Şahin a torrid time just weeks ago, could even make the squad for Sunday’s match against Leganés. This is excellent news for Don Carlo, who might have his attacking trio—responsible for much of Madrid’s offensive spark this season—ready to face Liverpool. Notably, Lucas Vázquez, initially expected to be sidelined for five weeks, is also on track to return for the Liverpool clash. Fingers crossed!
