Kylian Mbappé delivered a cataclysmic performance against Liverpool in the Champions League this Wednesday, further worsening the situation. Already criticised for his poor display, the French forward has been accused in Spain of showing a lack of respect and gratitude towards his teammates and supporters.
It’s undoubtedly crisis time at Real Madrid. The reigning European champions, Florentino Pérez’s club, are going through a rough patch with poor results in this first part of the season. Already defeated twice in the regular phase of the Champions League (new format), Carlo Ancelotti’s team suffered another loss against Liverpool on Wednesday. Deprived of Vinicius Junior (injured) as well as several other key players, the Merengue squad failed to rely on a resurgence from Kylian Mbappé.
KM9’s disgraceful behaviour after the Liverpool match
Deployed on his preferred left wing, the French striker faced an unyielding Connor Bradley (21 years old) during the clash at Anfield. Unable to get past the Reds’ defence or seriously trouble Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper—even from the penalty spot in the 61st minute—Kylian Mbappé received a scathing match rating. Criticised heavily in Spain as well as in his homeland, France, for his underwhelming performance, which speaks volumes about his mental state, the 25-year-old has drawn attention for his post-match behaviour.
Indeed, just as he has done several times this season, following defeats to Barcelona or Milan AC, Mbappé Lottin paid no attention to the Madrid fans at the final whistle. While his teammates usually make every effort to apologise to the travelling supporters, KM9, with a stern expression, is often the first to head straight to the dressing room. Against Liverpool this Wednesday, he did it once again, to the dismay of many, who remind us that such behaviour goes against the code of ethics.
It must be said: Mbappé is going through a rough patch. While some try to empathise with the player, who only interacts with the press or gives shirts to fans after scoring, others believe it’s unacceptable for the French star to show disrespect to Madrid fans who travel to support the team.
Like Jude Bellingham, Thibaut Courtois and others, who gave special attention to the fans after the Liverpool defeat, KM9 could have salvaged some dignity by doing the same. Unfortunately, he once again failed on this front.
