The Champions League once again delivers an epic showdown between Real Madrid and Manchester City. On the eve of this high-stakes knockout clash, Rodrygo Goes addressed the media in a press conference to discuss the highly anticipated match. The Brazilian forward, known for his standout performances against City, shared his thoughts on his current form, ambitions, and the expectations surrounding this crucial encounter.
Is City the opponent you enjoy facing the most?
“Oh no! As I’ve said before, it’s always very difficult to beat Manchester City. No one likes playing against them, just like no one likes facing Madrid. Both teams bring immense intensity and have players who can make the difference at any moment. But it’s true that I’ve had some great moments against them, and I hope tomorrow will be another special night for us.”
Do you think you can be decisive in this match?
“It’s true that I’ve scored against City in recent seasons, but every match is a new story. I’m in good form right now, and I feel like I can be important for the team. My goal is to be decisive in every game, not just against them. Facing such a formidable team, we’ll need to take every opportunity that comes our way.”

How do you feel hearing Guardiola say you’re ‘almost unstoppable’?
“It’s always nice to hear a coach of his caliber speak about me in such terms. Guardiola is one of the greatest managers in football history. But compliments are for before the match. What matters is what happens on the pitch, and I hope everything goes well for Madrid tomorrow.”
Do you feel more comfortable on the left side?
“(Laughs) It doesn’t really change much for me, whether I’m on the left or the right. Since I was young, I’ve often played on the left, and it’s true that I feel good there. But what matters is meeting the team’s needs. The coach knows exactly where to use me to get the best out of me.”
What do you think about playing on the left while Vinicius operates as a striker?
“We did that last season because it was the best option at the time. This year, things are different, the system has evolved, and it’s up to the coach to make those decisions. No matter the setup, we adapt for the good of the team.”
How have you handled the interest from Saudi Arabia?
“Honestly, I don’t pay attention to those things. My father, who is also my agent, handles all the offers and discussions. I’m happy here at Real Madrid. This is the club where I want to stay for many more years, and I’m grateful for everything it has given me. I don’t even know if any offers have reached the club.”

What influence has Carlo Ancelotti had on your development?
“Huge. He helps me a lot, not just me but the whole team. He has this ability to make us grow as players and as men. His experience and man-management are invaluable. My role is to always give my best, to work every day to become the best version of myself. Sometimes it’s not easy, but the secret is to never give up.”
Your best memory against City?
“I was actually talking about it with Valverde a few days ago. That famous match where we came back against City… it was one of the most special nights of my career. The atmosphere, the goals, the emotion… it was incredible. I don’t know if something like that will happen again, but I hope we’ll experience more magical moments.”
Ancelotti has asked the attackers to contribute more defensively
“Yes, the coach has spoken to us about it. We know our defensive involvement is crucial. When the defenders see us running and pressing, it motivates them to double their efforts too. We saw in the second half against Atlético that we were much better than in the first half, precisely because we increased our intensity and defensive workrate. It’s a collective effort.”
Do you expect a match as physical as last year’s?
“Almost every team that plays against City struggles. Their style of play allows them to dominate possession and impose a high tempo. Tomorrow will be another huge challenge, but we’ve learned from our past experiences. We’ll try to rise to the occasion, both in attack and defense, and execute the coach’s plan as well as possible.”
For the fourth consecutive season, it’s Real Madrid vs. Manchester City in the knockout stages…
“It will be harder than ever. Playing against them is always a massive challenge, especially at their ground. They apply intense pressure from the first minute, so we’ll need to be ready mentally and physically. The key will be to have the same mentality as last season: stay solid, take our chances, and never give up.”
