Real Madrid are facing a new wave of injuries at a crucial time of the season. Just hours before the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Leganés, Carlo Ancelotti announced a number of major absences at his press conference, including Kylian Mbappé.
Real Madrid are going through a complicated period physically. As the team prepares to face Leganés in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed at his press conference that Kylian Mbappé will not be taking part. Speaking to the media, the Italian coach gave an update on his star striker. ‘He started training today, but he’s suffering from a contusion and won’t be available for the match,’ explained Ancelotti.
Mbappé’s absence could open the door to other attacking options. One of the most eagerly-awaited alternatives would be Endrick, who is still struggling to accumulate game time since his arrival. This Cup match could be the perfect opportunity for him to show his worth and prove that he can be a solution over the coming weeks.

As if Mbappé’s absence wasn’t enough, Ancelotti also confirmed another piece of bad news: David Alaba will be out for around three weeks with a problem in the adductor muscle of his left leg. This is a major blow for Madrid’s defence, which has already been weakened by other physical problems. The injury comes at the worst possible time. With limited bench depth in central defence, the Madrid coach may be forced to readjust his tactical plan.
Bellingham also affected
The midfield has not been spared either. Ancelotti revealed that Jude Bellingham also suffered a contusion that will prevent him from playing against Leganés. ‘He’s taken a knock and won’t be available,’ said the Italian coach. Real Madrid therefore find themselves in a tricky situation. The combined absence of Bellingham and Mbappé is forcing the coach to review his plans. Ancelotti will have to dip into his squad to make up for these absences and avoid too great an imbalance.

With positions weakened in several areas of the game, the composition of the team against Leganés promises to be complex. A number of adjustments are conceivable. In midfield, Valverde could drop back a notch, forcing Ceballos and Modric to play alongside Camavinga, who returns from injury. In defence, Tchouaméni could be repositioned in central defence, a solution that has already been tested in the past. Ferland Mendy could also be repositioned in the centre, leaving Fran García on the left flank.
Injuries are piling up and complicating the management of Madrid’s squad. Real Madrid will have to adapt if they are to maintain their balance and avoid losing ground in the various competitions.
