From Saudi Arabia, Nacho Fernandez spoke about several current topics regarding Real Madrid. Although he is not against Sergio Ramos returning to help cover for Eder Militao’s injury, the former Merengue captain suggests that he’d rather see younger players get a chance to play.
Recent news surrounding Real Madrid has been mostly focused on the transfer market. With the team plagued by injuries this season, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is exploring various options in the transfer market to strengthen the team. While several names have emerged in recent days as potential January arrivals, Sergio Ramos’s name has also been mentioned as a possible emergency reinforcement following Eder Militao’s serious injury last weekend. Although the 38-year-old Spanish defender, currently a free agent, is doing everything he can to impress Real Madrid’s management, nothing has materialised so far.
“Don’t sign anyone”

And to make matters even less favourable for Ramos, Nacho Fernandez—another Real Madrid legend who left the club last June to join Saudi Arabia, boosting his earnings before retiring—made a statement that doesn’t support Sergio Ramos’s hopes of returning to Madrid. Speaking live on the radio show El Partidazo de Cope on Tuesday night, the Al Qadsiah defender in the Saudi Pro League shared his honest opinion about reinforcing Ancelotti’s squad.
Initially, he said it would be nice to see Sergio Ramos once again in the Real Madrid kit, as Guti and many Madrid fans would like. However, Nacho then encouraged Madrid’s management to trust in the young reserve players instead: “I’d like them not to sign anyone and to put faith in the boys from the youth academy. La cantera (the youth team) needs opportunities, and now is the perfect moment,” declared the 35-year-old defender on the show hosted by Juanma Castano.
Advice that indirectly rules out Sergio Ramos
This statement doesn’t align with Ramos’s ambitions, as he currently does not appear to be part of Madrid’s plans. Despite posting frequent demonstrations of his fitness on social media in recent days, Florentino Pérez prefers to wait until January to assess options in the transfer market. Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti sees no problem with giving minutes to Raul Asensio and bridging the gaps with Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde in upcoming matches.
With Nacho’s advice, which also rejects the idea of him personally returning to Real Madrid to assist in this difficult period, Sergio Ramos may need to reconsider his position. The odds are not at all in favour of the 38-year-old veteran, who has resisted hanging up his boots since the end of his contract with Sevilla FC last June.
