Kylian Mbappé has just delivered an iconic performance against Manchester City in the Champions League play-off. After his hat-trick at the Bernabéu, the French forward has named his ideal opponent for the Round of 16 between Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid.
The suspense did not last long in the two-legged clash between the reigning champions of Spain and England. After a challenging group stage, Manchester City and Real Madrid had to battle for a place in the Champions League Round of 16. Following a 3-2 victory at the Etihad in the first leg, Carlo Ancelotti’s side showed no nerves at home in the return leg on Wednesday. Led by a sensational Kylian Mbappé, who netted a hat-trick, Real cruised to a 3-1 victory and will find out their next opponent on Friday.

Delighted with his standout performance, the French striker spoke to the media. “I want to make history with this team and my teammates. I’ve said it before, I didn’t come here to play badly,” KM9 told UEFA’s official channel. When asked about his preference for the Round of 16 opponent, Mbappé made a pragmatic choice. “Leverkusen or Atleti? Both are tough, but maybe I prefer Atleti, so we save ourselves a long trip.”
All eyes now turn to Friday’s draw. After their commanding performance on Wednesday, Real Madrid can approach the next stage of the competition with confidence. Managing the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu will be crucial before heading into the return fixture.
