Back in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad for a place in the final. This Wednesday, the draw revealed the fixtures for the last four of the competition.
Real Madrid will undoubtedly try to win the Copa del Rey this season. Often regarded as a secondary competition due to the players (substitutes or those lacking playing time) involved, the Copa del Rey has a special flavour this season. Indeed, after the round of 16, quarter-finals, and now the semi-finals, four top teams from La Liga are competing for the trophy. In addition to Real Madrid, we have FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and Real Sociedad in the last four. After the draw on Wednesday, Ancelotti’s team will face the current tenth-placed team in La Liga, Real Sociedad.
This is yet another big fixture in Kylian Mbappé and his teammates’ calendar. At this stage of the competition, there will be no more rotation, as they will need to earn their place in the final against a formidable team that has caused plenty of difficulties in recent months. Following their incredible victory over Manchester City (2-3) in the first leg of the Champions League knockout round on Tuesday, the Madrid side is gaining confidence and can approach this upcoming match with a lot of serenity.
It’s worth noting that after the draw held at the Spanish Football Federation headquarters, the dates for the semi-finals have been confirmed. For the Madrid side, the first leg will be played away on 25th, 26th, or 27th February, with the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd April. A favourable draw for the Madrid team.
